Dr. Bailey Biography
Dr. Bailey was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Fairfax, Virginia. He attended Fairfax High School where he played football and was a track athlete.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech. (He still has season football tickets.)
From Blacksburg, he moved to Richmond, VA where he joined A.H. Robins Pharmaceuticals as a biochemist doing basic experimental research. He developed protocols, assays and conducted experiments in the areas of inflammation (cox-2 inhibitors) and gastrointestinal drugs. After six years and much introspective philosophical thought (“What do I really want to do when I grow up?”), he decided to “work for himself” in a healthcare profession. During these years, Dr. Bailey became a marathoner, tri athlete, and a wind surfer.
He attended the Medical College of Virginia/VCU where he was elected class president his junior and senior years. He also earned Honors clinic status his senior year.
Following MCV, he moved to Charlotte, NC for a residency at Carolinas Medical Center, a Level I trauma center. Dr. Bailey was on emergency room call every 4th night. He trained as a medical/dental resident with extensive head/neck trauma and surgical experience. While in Charlotte, he met his future wife, Lisa.
He completed a two year endodontic residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Dr. Bailey also earned his Master of Science in Oral Biology. His thesis title was “Detection of Human IL-2 in Normal and Inflamed Dental Pulps”. The research was published in the Journal of Endodontics (Volume 23, Issue 6, pages 366-370, June 1997).
Dr. Bailey established his private practice in Virginia Beach in 1993 soon to be followed by his sons Cameron and Tanner and daughter Erin. Dr. Engel joined Dr. Bailey and Beach Endodontics in 2006.
